How to Make Writing a Spiritual Practice
I am not a religious person. I don’t subscribe to a lot of woo-woo thinking. But I do believe spirituality is available to everyone, regardless of belief system. Spirituality is about finding purpose and meaning beyond material things. It’s the search for the greater good in life. Belief in God is not required.
There are a lot of ways to tap into the spiritual realm, to make that connection with the divine and find inner peace. Writing is one way to practice spirituality. You can make your writing time a spiritual act to make it more rewarding and to give your life more meaning and fulfillment.
How is writing a spiritual practice?
Writing can be a spiritual practice because it engages the mind, the body, and the spirit. Writing requires an awareness that goes beyond the surface level. Here’s how it manifests:
Writing as meditation: Writing demands your full attention. It requires listening. It can draw you deeper into your mind, allowing you to access feelings that may be out of reach otherwise. Like meditation, writing is a process of self-discovery. You often don’t know what the process will bring out of you until you are engaged in the act. When you are in a true writing flow, the rest of the world falls away. This is the essence of meditation.
